Chiropractic Adjustment
Dr. Uy will deliver gentle but effective chiropractic adjustment techniques to improve motion in your joints. She can assess and treat joints in the spine and extremities. Benefits may include improved range of motion, increased strength, and reduced pain after treatment.
What is an adjustment?
An adjustment is the most traditional form of treatment when you go to the chiropractor.
After the chiropractor has identified the joints in your body that are restricted, you will receive an adjustment.
An adjustment is when the chiropractor will use their hands to move the joint to a point of tension, then with a light thrust, create stretch and space within the joint. This will allow the restricted segment to return to an expected range of motion (aka it will move better). Studies have found that an adjustment or “joint manipulation” stimulates sensory receptors (nerve cells that detect muscle stretch and tension) which will affect pain tolerance and muscle activation.
Some people prefer an instrument assisted adjustment. This may also be provided in lieu of the manual adjustment described above dependent on your health history.
So, the "pop" is the adjustment?
The sound you hear is the release of gas (oxygen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide) from the joint capsule. When there is pressure build up, the release of those gases makes a "pop" like sound. Some adjustments have a "pop" sound, some do not.
Is something “out” in my spine?
Your spine should be a strong structure that is meant to help support your weight and movement. If a joint is fixated/restricted, it may feel “out”, limiting your range of motion, causing pain, and affecting your function.
