Dr. Ashley Uy, DC, MS, QME
As a young athlete, My doctor told me the only way to “fix” my injury was to stop running.
I was devastated with that feedback. Even with the limited knowledge I had at that time, I knew there had to be a different solution.
Since then, I have dedicated myself to discovering ways to improve movement, recover from injuries, and maximize the ability to live an active lifestyle.
I began my education pursuing a career in physical therapy. Along the way, I redirected my studies to psychology and was mentored in health behavioral change studies involving a communication technique called Motivational Interviewing. This rerouted my interests and work to behavior change for several years, but my love for physical rehabilitation never left. I eventually returned my attention to physical rehab and obtained my Masters of Science degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion, focusing on Rehabilitation. Around that same time, I discovered chiropractic care.
In 2012, while snowboarding, I went off a jump and landed straight onto my bum, injuring my coccyx (tailbone). I sought medical care for several months but without improvement. I was unable to sit without pain for 9 months. A friend of mine encouraged me to give chiropractic a try. I had some skepticism, but amazingly, after 1-2 visits, my tailbone pain was relieved. This stoked my curiosity to learn more about what chiropractic care had to offer. I moved to San Jose, CA, and obtained my Doctorate of Chiropractic degree at Palmer College of Chiropractic, West campus.
Since then, I have gained a variety of work experiences within interdisciplinary healthcare settings. I’ve enjoyed opportunities serving patients at onsite corporate health in Silicon Valley at Apple, Inc.; a federally qualified health center treating the medically complex and underserved communities in San Diego, and worker’s compensation.
While in the Bay Area, I was able to volunteer time providing “side line” manual therapy to athletes competing in the United States Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, North Face Endurance Challenge in San Francisco, Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, and others.
I have a special interest in supporting patients suffering from chronic pain and have completed additional studies in pain science to better understand how to improve their quality of life.
My experiences have given me insight as to how healing can be inhibited by our current healthcare system due to overloaded schedules, claims denials, and a focus just on short term pain relief. I hope my approach can offer a comprehensive recovery for my patients with longer lasting change.
I also serve as a Qualified Medical Examiner (QME), licensed by the State of California, Division of Workers’ Compensation.
